About

CHILDHOOD

Deepak was brought up in a typical Newari family from Bhinchhe Bahal, a sub metropolitan area in the city of Lalitpur, and had a normal childhood. Being brought up in such a family, he didn’t know how to speak any other language than Newari and after he started his schooling his entire friends’ circle spoke Nepali and English which created a communication problem for him. Unlike the present friendly and charming Deepak, he was a shy kid in school and the type of student who always found comfort in the last bench, hiding away from the teachers. But later during his primary school, he joined martial arts and his confidence began to build up eventually. He had an interest in music right from his early childhood but being a shy kid he never had the opportunity to present his interest at school.

STARTING OF  MUSIC CAREER

He had a keen interest in music right from his childhood and his interest went to such extend that when he heard someone sing or even listened to a small tune, he would forget the world beside him and get high on music. His career in the music industry began with the release of his first album in 2047 B.S. with his former band “Lituluns” and “Chodi Gayo Priye” was the first song he recorded officially. They used to cover songs back from the 70’s and the 80’s and a few of Nepali songs. But his family didn’t support him in this regard. His father would tell him about how people will get their lives destroyed if they blindly try to make a career in the music industry but Deepak never believed in what his father used to say. His mother would support him a bit just because it was her son’s dream and interest and convincing both his parents was a task difficult than actually starting out a career in the music industry.
Back then, there weren’t as many studios as there are now and to book a studio to record for a few hours was like climbing the Everest. If one needed to book the studio, they’d have to book it in a month in advance. Deepak booked a recording studio called “Sano Studio” a month before and started practicing with the band for the final recording. He was so focused about the date of the recording that he forgot he had an exam on the same day as the “big day”. But being a music fanatic, he chose recording over giving his exam as for him music was the first priority and education the second. Most people think one can never make a career out of music and discourage others from doing something out of it but Deepak believes that with hard work and dedication one can make a career in this industry and he himself is a living example of it.
He used to sing a lot of rock songs back then and didn’t have any Nepali music. He had to sing at least 5 songs in a show so he used to mix Nepali words with English songs and that was how he came up with one of his hits “Kali Kali”. He started covering songs commercially performing at hotels and restaurants from which his band earned a certain amount. Earning even a little from it was a huge encouragement to them and something they could use as an excuse and a way to convince their parents that being involved in the music industry isn’t bad after all and they continued their journey in the music industry.
But the initial band members couldn’t stick together because there wasn’t any scope in the industry back then and they had to face a huge financial problem. So the band members went off to pursue their own dreams whereas Deepak continued his career in this industry by himself. He is now the lead vocalist and the guitarist of the band “Rhythm” along with Firoj and Rojan in the guitar and Ricky in the drums.

SOCIAL WORK

For Deepak, a social work is rather a responsibility of paying back and being involved in various social works he feels he has matured more and has gained a different kind of satisfaction. He was chosen at the Social Ambassador of Nepal Tourism Year 2011 and Nepal Cancer Relief Society. When travelling overseas for a certain concert he wouldn’t feel as proud to tell the people at the embassy he’s going for a concert but after he was chosen as the ambassador of Nepal Tourism Year, telling them he was going to a particular place to represent his country was always a proud moment.

APART FROM BEING A SINGER

He has been chosen as the brand ambassador of Bagpiper Whiskey, Kodak Film, Samsung Electronics, Worldlink Communication and Anna Lifan Motorcycle. Getting involved in the advertisement and media field has rather proven to be an encouragement for him, career wise. Being a brand ambassador has added a certain value to what Deepak Bajracharya is and he feels like he really does have a value in the Nepali market place when a certain company wants him to endorse their products. Alongside, he has been managing Royal Tone Academy to help artists develop and excel themselves in the music industry and he wishes to continue operating it. Only an artist can understand the struggles of another artist. And since this industry hasn’t developed as much, Deepak, along with a few other people, have initiated a campaign they call “Aabhav ko Prabhav” to help emerging artists survive in this industry. And after all these years of hard work, he’s now a music programmer, arranger and composer and a recording technician along with being one of Nepal’s super singer.

FOREIGN PERFORMANCE

He started getting a lot of invitations from foreign countries after he became a popular artist in Nepal. He’s performed in over 30 times overseas and in all of the 14 states of Nepal till date. Deepak believes in performing overseas gives one a different kind of satisfaction because Nepalese residing abroad get to feel at home and really appreciate attending a Nepali artist’s performance; they co-operate with them. The main motive behind Deepak performing overseas is to promote Nepali music and to show how our ethnic music instruments, when played together, can create something beautiful that just raises the bar of the competition in an international market. And as fun as it is to perform in such platform, it’s difficult too to travel around. But at the end of the day, winning the audience’s heart is all that counts.

ETHNIC NEPAL

More than 2 decades ago, he didn’t really bother about the ethnic music instruments of Nepal. Like most people, he too was attracted by the eye candy of the television, movies and the internet. An incident in one of his concert tours in the overseas where a foreign friend of his advised him to create a song with our ethnic music and their words to be able to be recognized in the international market. And since then he’s been working towards creating music with the ethnic instruments and has been trying to generate awareness about the importance of such instruments. This has made him the President of Ethnic Nepal, an NGO working in promoting the importance of ethnic Nepali music instruments.
